Last month came the sad news that one of our strongest supporters - Kathleen Martin -
had passed away. She was well known around the town and had been involved with
the Community Bookshop, Cymdeithas Aberteifi and its companion based in
Aberaeron along with the Albion celebrations that were held just before COVID.
JigSo and the local croquet club were other interests. She ran craft courses and was
on alert to tell neighbours of potential flooding along the Strand. As you can gather,
she was a bundle of energy which hardly dimmed even after her heart trouble of a
few years ago. The Tabernacl group will miss her contributions to our community as
will many people in the town.
Thank you all who came to the coffee morning on Barley Saturday before the
parade. It was a good opportunity to show townspeople and visitors alike the
buildings and we were able to brief you on where we stand on vestry usage, repairs
and plans.
We are hopeful that we can get started soon on refurbishing the outside of the
buildings. The good news is that we have a preliminary offer of a CADW grant to
cover half the price of this work and we are awaiting news of a grant to match fund
before we can get underway.
In the meantime, we have had bookings for more uses of the vestry including adult
learning classes, community consultations, photoshoots and requests from charities
around the town who are looking for coffee morning facilities. If you are interested
using the rooms not just for a coffee morning but any reason, then please get in
touch at hwbaberteifi@gmail.com.
As ever we are looking for some expertise particularly in finance, architecture, fund
raising and legal issues. If you are interested in helping, please contact any of us or
use the email address above.
